COMMUNIONS CUPID
The latest tune from Danish duo Communions is the gritty indie cut, ‘Cupid’. It opens with a distortion-laden, punky intro that develops the work of nineties pioneers Neutral Milk Hotel before dropping into verses accompanied by trebly Kooks-esque guitars. The track is a feel-good anthem that the band describes as an ode to the naivety of love. It is taken from their new album (Pure Fabrication, out April 23rd), which develops from “the opening songs, [which] represent a character with an assertiveness and unwillingness to be restrained or suppressed by the ways of the world. By the end of the record, the protagonist questions the entire notion of desire and freedom”. It’s an hour of thoughtful, interesting music. -Dan Peeke
